The pit bull was discovered hiding in a trash dump near the harbor freeway, both scared and injured. A compassionate local alerted a dog rescue organization about her condition, sparking a challenging yet heartwarming rescue mission.
The pit bull’s transformation into a hopeful foster dog in spite of her suffering and fear is proof of the strength of kindness and perseverance.

A scared pit bull was hiding in a garbage dump close to the harbor freeway, and a local informed a dog rescue organization that she needed to be rescued. When a rescuer from the team reached the spot, he saw her hiding in a den-like lowland deep inside the bushes.
He saw that she was in pain since one of her legs was broken. She was also visibly scared, so he knew he had to be very careful with this one. Cautiously, he approached her, taking care not to scare her or startle her in any way.
He had a cheeseburger with him, which he tore bits off of and threw their way. She started nibbling at the bits, but it was clear that she would not come out of her ‘nest’ easily.

While she was eating, he carefully placed a ‘gentle snare’ around her and tugged on it to draw her out, throwing her more bits of food. Eventually, she did come out and started following him.
He had set a bowl of water on the side of the freeway, and he now intended to have her drink from it. However, in an unexpected turn of events, she managed to chew off the snare and went scampering back into her hiding place.
Aghast at the situation, he realized that he had to be more firm with her now. He straightened the snare and went back to her. He was now out of food, but he knew that he had to take a chance to get her out of there.

So he went near her and placed the snare around her once more. She seemed reluctant to come out at first, but he was far from giving up on her. He tugged at her more strongly this time, goading her to get out and come into the open.
A Second Chance
With great effort, she finally came out. Not wanting to take a risk, he put a second snare around her.
She came into the open and to the place where the bowl of water was waiting for her. She was thirsty, so she lapped it all up. Then he started pulling firmly once more, telling her to go ahead.

But now she seemed more stubborn than ever, so he knew that he had to call someone to assist him. A second rescuer arrived on the scene and helped him in taking the dog (named Yara by now) into a cage. The task wasn’t easy, since she started barking and was showing a resolute refusal to move ahead.
But finally, all their efforts paid off and she was inside the cage. The snare was taken off and the doors were shut as the cage was lifted up and taken into the car.
The immediate stop was the hospital, where the vet did an extensive check-up of Yara’s injured leg.

Unfortunately, the leg was crushed badly and had to be amputated. However, once the pain was gone, Yara became friendlier, wagging her tail and getting along better with her rescuers. She is currently at a foster home, awaiting adoption.
We sincerely hope she finds her forever home soon! Best of luck, Yara!
