What’s not to love about a fluffy dog? (Well, the brushing, washing, and keeping them cool, but besides that?) There are several types of dogs (purebred and mixed-breed) that can be hard to keep your hands off, if you’re a dog lover.
Now with that in mind, here’s a list of 12 fluffy dog breeds you may want to add as a new family member or consider adopting.
Some of the most luxurious coats, such as those of the Husky, may appear labor-intensive but are relatively easy to maintain. Others, like the Chow Chow and Golden Retriever, give off major shedding vibes but can be controlled with regular brushing.
So let’s take a closer look and find out more about the 12 dog breeds that are so fluffy that you’ll end up thinking they are toys:
1. Pomeranian

Being a lookalike of a plush stuffed toy, Pomeranians weigh about 3-7 pounds and have a height of 6-7 inches maximum. These fluffy, rust-colored, double-coated dogs are highly adaptable and always lively. Pomeranians do come in other colors, too.
The AKC (American Pomeranian Club) recommends regular brushing to keep their coat healthy and a full groom session with a bath at least every six weeks. Poms are one of the most chirpy breeds that require constant playtime and socializing.
2. Chow Chow

Another breed of dog similar to a big teddy bear is the Chow Chow. Averagely growing up to a height of 17-20 inches and weighing between 45-70 pounds (in a healthy condition), these dogs are loyal and often stubborn when it comes to training time.
Since they have thick fur coats, it’s quite important to brush them regularly.
While some Chow Chows have rough fur, others have noticeably silkier coats. Interestingly, these are pretty serious dogs who love their alone time!
3. Golden Retriever

Golden Retrievers are a highly preferred breed for their happy-go-lucky and friendly mood.
With a height of almost 21-24 inches and weighing moderately around 55-75 pounds, these dogs are devoted, cuddly, and easy to train.
Technically, retrievers generally shed seasonally, but most of the time, pet parents see their golden-blonde hair almost everywhere on a daily basis.
4. Siberian Husky

Known to be one of the most vocal breeds among dogs, Siberian Huskies are smaller in size than the Alaskan Malamute.
They grow up to the size of 20-24 inches and weigh around 35-60 pounds, having similar builds, and have fluffy coats.
They’re definitely pack dogs, with mischief in mind, and are usually very active and loud and shed quite a lot (every day, every month). These dogs prefer a cold-weather climate and behave according to their moods only.
5. Samoyed

Known for their royal white and fluffy appearance, Samoyeds have bright white tufts of fur.
Weighing between 35 and 65 pounds and growing to a maximum height of 19 to 24 inches, these breeds of dogs are suitable for residing in cold climates due to their thick coats.
Samoyeds are a gentle and easy-going breed of dogs who enjoy alone time as well as socializing (depending on their mood). In recent studies, it has been revealed that Sammies are likely to experience high separation anxiety if they are left on their own all day.
As a matter of fact, brushing them regularly helps to control their constant shedding.
6. Bernese Mountain Dog

Popular as a cuddly and calm family dog, the Bernese Mountain Dog is also a fluffy breed weighing around 70-115 pounds and attaining a height between 23-28 inches.
Having a moderate activity level, these dogs are easy to train.
Since they are mountain dogs, they have thick and layered coats, so it’s necessary to brush them every day, at least twice, to keep the fur knot-free.
7. Standard Poodle

One of the most active and highly intelligent breeds, poodles are also quite fluffy and toy-like in appearance.
Although these dogs grow to be around 15 inches and weigh approximately between 40 and 70 pounds, they are still quite athletic, easy to train, and usually up for anything that comes their way.
Poodles do have hypoallergenic coats but still require grooming and brushing on a routine basis.
8. Toy Poodle

Is it all right for an adult to carry a teddy bear wherever they go? Well, ofcourse, as long as they come in the form of a toy poodle (although the standard size and miniature size are just as lovely).
With soft curls, beautiful and curious eyes and a button nose, this breed makes an adorable cuddling companion.
As a matter of fact, the fur of a poodle grows for years without falling, just like human hair.
9. Newfoundland

It is hard to resist this chonky dog breed. Some doggos generally have a lot of fluff but not much body weight, and that’s the exact opposite case with Newfies.
They are solid masses of cuteness, with cheeks so snuggly that one will start looking for every possible way to work from home just to spend more time cuddling them all day.
This gigantic breed may weigh as much as 150 pounds, but it stands among the friendliest and most docile breeds. They have also been termed the “nanny breed” because they love and defend the children in their family.
10. Keeshond

This super-cute, chubby breed of dog hails from the Netherlands and is often called the “caze-hawnd.”
Due to its warm-hearted, sensitive, and calm temperament, it is one of the best companions to have when one needs comforting. These dogs’ beautiful, double coat keeps them nice and warm during their favorite season in the world—winter.
These gray-and-black fluffballs were originally barge watchdogs, but nowadays, they consider their main job to be a human’s best buddy.
11. Cockapoo

In the early 1950s, breeders in the U.S. created a mixed breed by crossing cocker spaniels and poodles and started calling them Cockapoos. Inheriting traits from both dogs, cockapoos are equally affectionate, intelligent, and low-shedding.
While the first generation of Cockapoos usually has curly coats, the later generations may have wavy or curly fur.
They are happy, trainable, and very well connected with human beings and dogs, even cats, which makes them very good family companions.
12. Bichon Frise

The Bichon Frise belongs to the Barbichon group, which also includes the Maltese and Havanese.
These cute little white-coated fur babies are affectionate and playful, but do not like to be left all alone.
These fluffy charmers load people with laughter, and when they are tired of being entertainers, they transform into great cuddly buddies.
