Dogs are the sweetest and most loyal pets we can ever have but sometimes it gets hard to understand what they are trying to tell us.
It’s like they are using their secret language to communicate with us because verbally it’s not possible for them.
However, this secret language is tough to understand sometimes but don’t worry, it’s not impossible because a little observation will do the work for you to understand what your beloved furry buddy is trying to tell.
The Wagging Tail Code
This is the classic way to communicate for any dog, especially Labradors. They will wag their tails fast and wide when they are happy or excited—very classic!

While the wagging can get slow when there is uncertainty or cautious friendliness, low and tucked means they are fearing something or someone or giving submission.
The “Labrador Lean”
This is another classic way for a Labrador to tell you they trust you and show their affection towards you is by leaning on you.
It’s how they want to show their love for you and this also shows they are pretty comfortable with you.
Paw Placement
This is a tiny and very basic gesture that you cannot avoid. Labradors place their paws whenever they want to grab your attention.
Placing a paw on you is a polite way to ask you to give them attention or they are showing affection.
While the frantic pawing is excitement or they want to tell you something or show you something.
Play Bowing
If you notice your Lab lowering its chest and sticking up its tail and you cannot really decipher what they are saying, well, they are asking you to play with them.
They are trying to show you their excitement and convince you to go out with them and have fun.
Zoomies (FRAPs—Frenetic Random Activity Periods)
Sometimes you can’t understand what your Labs are trying to say as they jump around and have uncontrollable energy.
Don’t worry, they are not getting some kind of attack; actually, they are getting happiness attacks where they have a burst of uncontrollable energy and show their pure joy. It’s their way to burn that energy.
The Soulful Stare
You must have noticed your furry buddies looking deep into your eyes; don’t get scared because they are trying to communicate with you and show their affection or want attention from you. In such situations, you must shower them with love and snuggle with them.
Mouthy Gestures
Labradors are quite “mouthy”, which means they will express their love and excitement for you by bringing something for you and holding it in their mouths.
They will bring toys for you, especially when they are greeting; it’s the classic Labrador way to greet and show warmth.
The “Labrador Whimper”
The whimpering could be a small gesture to ask for food or attention or try to say something, but a long whimper, which might sound like whining, means they are in discomfort, and you must check in to give them relief.
Ear Expressions
Ear expressions of Labradors are a must to observe because, just like their tail, they can give you hints about their feelings and the situation by their ears.
Perked ears forward means Labs are alert or curious. Pulled-back ears mean submission, worry, or appeasement, while relaxed ears mean contentment.
Nose Nudging
Nose nudging is a very common gesture by Labradors and no, they are not annoying you; they simply want your attention and are trying to get you to notice them.
So, now you know when your Labs are nose-nudging, then you have to show affection to them and not get annoyed.
