10 Reasons Chihuahuas Are Bigger Than They Look

Chihuahuas are the smallest dogs on the planet. Small, adorable and deer-like in appearance, they look like perpetual puppies.

There are several varieties of Chihuahuas, including the apple-headed and deer-headed ones. There are also the long and short haired Chihuahuas.

While it’s true that they are the smallest dogs on earth, and do not inspire much awe or ‘respect’, they are actually far bigger than their sizes. And how is that, you might ask.

Well, the answer is simple: Go by the old saying that tells you that appearances can be deceptive. Below are some of the points which underline the fact that chihuahuas are ‘far bigger than they look’.

1. Fearless Attitude

They have a very fearless attitude. In fact, they are one of the boldest dog species.

They are generally quite distrustful of strangers, and they sniff everyone who tries to approach their owner, as if to ask, ‘Who is this exactly?’

They are very bold dogs who won’t let even a fly slip in unnoticed. Easily one of the boldest dogs out there, they make excellent guards for your home.

2. Loud and Proud Bark

Have you ever heard a chihuahua bark? Their bark is as good, or let’s say, as bad as their bite.

Their bark is loud enough to startle anyone, and can be intimidating to a person who wasn’t expecting it. Its bark is actually frighteningly loud compared to its size, so it can seem almost unreal.

3. Mega Loyalty

These little critters are by no means small when it comes to loyalty.

As we all know, loyalty is one of the biggest things that we value in dogs, so it is no wonder that these little guys are famed for their strong sense of loyalty and being extremely attached to their owners.

Do not underestimate them when it comes to this!

4. Giant Confidence

They are small in size, but few can beat them when it comes to confidence.

It will loudly let its owners know when it wants something, and will refuse to budge until you address its ‘demands’. They are proper divas and will not give up so easily.

5. Expressive Faces

Their small and cute faces are quite expressive, and portray their feelings quite accurately.

They are particularly good at giving you the disapproving side-eye, while looking extremely adorable while doing so.

They are also known to make faces of disappointment; especially the ‘I-didn’t-expect-you-to-do-this’ one. Can’t get better than this!

6. Big Dog Energy

They strut and take long strides just like big dogs, and do not get scared of anything easily.

They can easily stare down bigger opponents, and chase after vehicles or other animals just like bigger dogs do.

7. Deep Intelligence

They are highly intelligent, and pick up commands easily. They are quick to respond to any instructions, and are great at solving puzzles.

They are also one of the easiest dogs to train, because of this.

In fact, they are great at reading their owner’s moods, and reacting accordingly. Truly one area where they are ‘bigger’ than they look.

8. Bold Personalities

They are fearless, as established in many of the aforementioned points.

They are not afraid to bark or bare their teeth at anyone they find threatening. It does not matter how big the opponent is; the dog will stand its ground and look the ‘enemy’ in the eyes. It will also get into ‘arguments’ with bigger street dogs.

9. Huge Hearts

They are very loving and super cuddly. They love nothing better than to snuggle up against their owners for a lazy evening of watching TV on the couch, or simply sipping coffee while reading a book.

They will sleep on your bed if they sense that you’re not well or feeling down. They will also try to comfort you by incessantly licking your face.

10. Endless Entertainment

They are funny little creatures. If trained, they can perform funny tricks such as mini-backflips and also try to ‘walk’ on their two hind legs.

They can even ‘smile’ when you do something that makes them happy. Last but not the least, they can ‘dance’ to music! In short, they are a complete package of endless entertainment that you do not want to miss out on.

Conclusion

In conclusion, one could say that size is definitely not everything. Sometimes, you can have the best of things in the tiniest of packages.

It seems chihuahuas exist just to prove that. They are adorable, smart, funny, brave, and super cuddly!

They are literally the best buddies you could want to keep you company at all times.
