10 Dog Breeds With the Most Unique Coat Colors

There are several dog breeds that boast striking colors. Far removed from the usual pattern of white, black, and brown, they are a creative marvel of various unconventional hues. Most dogs are one single color or have broad patches of black/brown over white.

But the dogs that we have listed are bestowed with unique eye-catching patterns that can make anybody stop and stare.

Most dogs look like someone made art pieces out of them. And that is because of the most unconventional color schemes on their body, making them easily identifiable. Some of them, like the Silver Lab, look almost surreal with their super-uncommon coloring.

Interesting, right? Here is a list of ten dogs with the most unusual coats and colors. If you love dogs, you’re sure to enjoy this.

1. Harlequin Great Dane

The first dog on this list would be the Harlequin Great Dane. These dogs are almost a hybrid between a dog and a cow.

Their chief characteristic is an eye-catching black and white pattern. Seen closely, it almost resembles a patchwork. They have a white base coat that is adorned with irregular black patches.

This quality lends it a most unusual look that sets it apart from other canines in the crowd. Black patches are most common, but there are numerous other colors, such as gray or merle.

2. Puli

The Puli is one of the rarer dog breeds in the United States. With a heavily corded coat resembling dreadlocks, the Puli looks like a bag of ragged clothes. Their fur grows so long that it can almost cover their eyes.

They are not born with those matted braids, but they become tangled and entwined as the pups grow older. They are most commonly black. However, you also find cream or tan varieties.

3. Catahoula Leopard Dog

Catahoulas Leopard Dogs can come in various colors, including blue merle, red merle, and grey. Sometimes you’ll find that the Catahoulas with solid color coats have small markings of other shades (such as white).

They are most frequently present on their faces, legs, or chest. Their coats look like someone has splashed it around with different shades of colors. It’s almost like looking at a canvas of waterworks.

4. Bluetick Coonhound

Bluetick Coonhounds are a very friendly breed. In fact, one of the friendliest ones. Their coat has a spotted appearance.

This is actually created by speckles (blue or black) on a white backdrop. Their head and ears are black in color.

Another feature you easily notice is the tan marks, which are present on the eyes, cheeks, and tail. They also frequently have red ticking on the lower legs.

5. Bernese Mountain Dog

Bernese Mountain Dogs are one of the cutest ones you’ll find. Their characteristic dark patches over the eyes make them look adorable.

The coat is a combination of rust, black, and white. While the overall coat is predominantly black, it can have rust markings above their eyes, on their cheeks, and on the chest and legs. This pattern makes them recognizable instantly.

6. Brindle Boxer

A brindle Boxer resembles a bulldog to some degree with its face. Its coat is largely fawn-colored, with black streaks or stripes, which lends it a somewhat mottled appearance. The shades of the coat can vary—it can be tan, deer red, or mahogany.

The black stripes usually vary in density; they can be almost invisible to very prominent. In fact, they can be so clear that they can almost eclipse the main base color.

7. Silver Labrador Retriever

The Silver Labrador Retriever sports a coat that is just like its name, i.e., silvery-gray. This unique color is caused by a recessive dilution gene, which serves to lighten the standard brown color of the Labrador coat.

Their color is so uncommon that it makes them look almost unreal. They also have deep-set button eyes that go very well with the silvery-gray color.

8. Dapple Dachshund

Dachshunds come in a lot of colors. If you dive deep into the world of Dachshunds, you’ll find that they have fascinating diversity. You have the classic black and tan hues, to the rare blue shade.

Their coats are as diverse as they are—they can be smooth or very wiry. Their fur can be any length—short, medium, or long. Dapple dachshunds commonly have a black, tan, or chocolate base.

9. Saluki

The Saluki dog belongs to the sighthound family. Because of this, it has the typical long-legged and huff-chested body typical of sighthounds.

The coat comes in many colors. The main varieties include cream, white, red, fawn, tan combinations (tan with cream or red), and the tri-color (a combination of white, black, and tan).

10. Thai Ridgeback

Thai Ridgebacks come in the colors red, black, blue, and fawn. Some red-coated dogs may have a black ‘mask’ on them. Brindle and white coats are also possible, though not typically accepted by breed standards or by the AKC (American Kennel Club).

Additionally, some Thai Ridgebacks have spotted or solid black/blue tongues. Now, that is what you call super-amazing! Not many dog breeds are known to have tongues with colors like this.

Conclusion
